Haijiang Zhang

Dr. Haijiang Zhang is currently a Professor of Geophysics and the Associate Director of Geophysical Research Institute at University of Science and Technology of China. He received his PhD degree of seismology and geophysics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in December 2003. He was a research scientist at the Earth Resources Laboratory of Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research interests focus on studying induced seismicity caused by oil/gas production and geothermal resources development. He also works on developing advanced seismic imaging methods to study subduction zones, fault zones and volcanoes and is the developer of the widely used double-difference seismic tomography code (tomoDD).

Dr. Zhang was the Associate Editor of the Bulletin of Seismological Society of America from 2010 to 2013. Since 2016, he has been serving as the Associate Editors for Journal of Geophysical Research-Solid Earth and GSA-Bulletin.

Research Interests:

1、Studying the detailed structure of subduction zones using local and teleseismic earthquakes to place new and important constraints on unresolved problems such as the mechanisms causing the intermediate depth and deep earthquakes, mantle convection, and lithospherical evolution.
2、Imaging the detailed structure of fault zones and volcanoes for natural hazard assessment and mitigation.
3、Improving exploration and development techniques for natural resources such as the oil and gas.
4、Monitoring and studying induced seismicity caused by oil/gas production and geothermal resources development.
5、Developing joint geophysical imaging methods using multiple geophysical data including seismic, EM, and gravity data.
